リモージュの小物入れやミニチュアは、1700年代初頭に初めて登場しました。手描きの小さな磁器のミニチュアは、上流階級の人々が日常生活で使用したり、感謝の気持ちを表すための贈り物として使われていました。陶器製小箱はリモージュボックスと呼ばれフランス革命までは嗅ぎたばこ入れとして使われていたものが、その後は位牌や宝石、秘密のメッセージ、子供の乳歯や恋人の大切な髪などを入れる容器として大切にされ、貴重な贈り物として扱われるようになりました。フランスの職人によってごく限られた数だけ作られたミニチュアや小箱は貴重なコレクターズアイテムとなっています。

Antique porcelain miniatures and trinket boxes from Limoges, France.

Limoges trinket boxes and miniatures first emerged in the 18th Century. These small, hand-painted porcelain miniatures were used by the upper class in their daily life or offered as tokens of appreciation. Some of these trinkets initially used as snuff boxes until the French Revolution, were thereafter treasured as containers for tablets, jewelers, secret messages, baby's tooth keepsake, lover’s precious lock of hair, etc.. and were considered most valuable gifts. Crafted by French artisans in very limited numbers, they became precious collectibles.
